Junior Cotillion has shown me that a caring and polite society can be achieved one person at a time. As I was attending the program I tried to adapt the habits I had been learning into my everyday life. When I did this, I realized that it made many formal gatherings like dinner parties and wedding receptions quite enjoyable. Although, if I had not been a part of the program I would not have been able to engage a sixty-year-old woman into very interesting conversation. Cotillion has taught me to treat every person with dignity, honor, and respect.

People are not born with impeccable manners. Sadly, we are inclined to selfishness in this assert-yourself, say-what-you-think society where social graces have disappeared. Junior Cotillion has demonstrated to me that manners are not passe and extend beyond polite verbal responses such as “please” and “thank you.” Cotillion provides us tools to respect and regard others with thoughtful kindness. It also emboldened me with the confident knowledge of gracious and gentle conduct in any setting-and it taught me a few fun dance steps too! In these ways Cotillion instructs students that courtesy and politeness do make a positive difference.

I joined Junior Cotillion in the 5th grade. At first, it was just a way to socialize outside of school with my friends. I learned a few fun dances, won a couple of candy bars, and mostly enjoyed shopping for the next cute dress I would get to wear. I am now in my third season as a 7th grade student. I have grown in my understanding of appropriate conduct in many situations along with my friends.

Looking back I realize that Junior Cotillion has taught me to interact with my friends in a more mature and confident way.

“What Junior Cotillion means to me, it means a lot more to me than I ever thought it would. During the season of cotillion, it has taught me to have a lot more self confidence through dancing, showing respect for others, and even how to conduct myself by having proper table manners. These are things I will need throughout my life.

I am very proud to have completed Junior Cotillion. When meeting someone for the first time I have learned to step up and introduce myself and shake their hand, while looking them in the eye. It shows them that they are important to me. That also shows that I respect them and they will in turn show respect for me.

Now I have confidence with going to a formal setting and socializing with peers my age. From what I have learned I will take with me for the rest of my life.”

The National League of Junior Cotillion class has had an amazing effect in my life. What I have learned in the cotillion classes, I plan to put to practice in order to be a respectable gentleman in the future.

In the classes, I was taught lots of helpful requirements for a formal dance, table manners, phone and letter etiquette. The people who assisted Mrs. Armstrong were very helpful, especially when it came to getting the dance moves right!

When I practiced the dances during the cotillion class, the music that was played had a good beat, which helped the dance move along smoothly.

The balls are the best part about the cotillion program, in my mind. It gave me a chance to know what it feels like to ask a young lady to dance, and to get a positive response. It gave me the opportunity to see how etiquette and being polite is important. It will also help me show kindness to my future wife and children. I have five sisters in my family, so I will get a lot of practice!
